Ken Schram: Help us honor slain Seattle officer
My commentary yesterday focused on a grotesque T-shirt created by the lead singer of a local band that I'm now told broke up a few months ago.
I'm still not naming the band because there are now new members and I don't want to given them any publicity.
The shirt glorifies the man who's charged with killing Seattle Police Officer Tim Brenton.
It features a picture of Christopher Monfort along with a Seattle police badge sitting in a pool of blood.
The heading reads: "Deliver us From Evil."
In addition to my commentary, John Carlson and I talked about this on our KOMO Newsradio show for more than two hours, during which we heard from Tim Brenton's mother-in-law.
The idea hit us just before talking with her.
We want to create a T-shirt that honors Officer Brenton and takes attention away from the one glorifying his accused killer.
That's where you come in.
Send us your design or idea for that T-shirt.
The best four or five will be posted on-line and then everyone can have a say as to which one should be made up.
The shirts will then be sold, with every penny going to the family of Timothy Brenton.
E-mail me your best T-shirt design or idea (kenschram@komo4news.com), or leave a comment below.
Let's turn something positive out of a low life's attempt to glorify an accused cop killer.

Ken - my idea for a tshirt:
On the back is a montage of maybe six people in uniform - police, fire, medics and include men, women, white, African American, hispanic, Asian, with a picture of Tim Brenton in the center. Underneath would read: "Seattle's Finest".
On the front over the left chest would be a smaller picture of Officer Brenton and underneath would read: "In memory of Officer Timothy Brenton 2009".
Thanks for all you and John do.
We need you.
With deepest regard and respect,
Joyce Kent

I would put the Space Needle and the Mt. Rainier in the back ground and then Tim's badge Number and say to the left of the T Shirt's , above the heart. In Memory of Officer Tim Brenton Oct. 31, 2009 And also another Idea is like the "honor our troops" Magnets for Vehicles, Have it in the Seattle colors same as there uniforms, a Light blue, and a little black, with navy blue and around the ribbon say. " In Memory of Tim Brenton" Oct. 31, 2009 or even the antenna balls in the same colors and the saying, and I was also thinking License Plate frames saying the same thing around the frame and the colors for the Seattle police Dept. colors.

I think somewhere on the shirt it needs to read "to protect and serve" It brings tears to my eyes everytime I think of what happened to our police officer who was just doing his job protecting all of us as we go about our daily lives! I will purchase one as soon as they are available

Ken and John,
My son is a Seattle police officer and i was very rattled at the killing of one of Seattle's finest. I called my son immediately and told him to keep his head on a swivel and that i loved him and to be safe.
The idea for a positive tee-shirt is a picture of the slain Seattle Police officer's badge with a line drawing of the Seattle Skyscape across it with the words underneath it. Seattle Police Officers 'Sworn to Serve and Protect Us from Evil'
